Hortonian overland flow
An overland flow of water occurring more or less simultaneously over a drainage basin when rainfall intensity exceeds the rate of water infiltration in the soil (Horton (1933) Trans. Am. Geophys. Union 14; Kirkby (1988) J. Hydrol. 100). See also Vigiak et al. (2006) Geomorph. 76, 1–2.
