Z-DNA

Quick Reference

A left-handed helical form of DNA adopted by sequences of alternating purines and pyrimidines which winds in a zigzag pattern (hence Z) and there is a single deep groove. It may only exist as a transient conformation for relief of supercoiling or to allow access of transcriptional complexes. See A-DNA; B-DNA.
