Overview

William of Worcester

(1415—1482)

Quick Reference

(1415–82)

Physician and secretary to Sir John Fastolf of Caister (Norfolk) until 1459, when he returned to his native Bristol. A man of wide interests, between 1478 and 1480 he travelled through Norfolk, Bristol, and the south‐west collecting †antiquarian information for a projected description of Britain. This was never completed, but his Itineraries, containing antiquarian notes and everyday accounts of his journeys and conversations (ed. and trans. John Harvey, 1969), make interesting reading.
