Quick Reference

A group or cemetery of inurned cremations buried in pits dug into the ground, distinctive of the European late Bronze Age Urnfield Tradition, but also found in areas of northern Europe. The majority of cemeteries are open sites, in many cases constructed on or around earlier round barrows. A few, however, are contained within a ditched enclosure. These tend to be smaller examples of up to several dozen burials.
