Abbot of Molesme. He became a monk when he was fifteen. In 1075 he founded a monastery at Molesme in Burgundy for some hermits who had asked to be placed under his direction. When divisions appeared in the community, Robert and some of the monks left Molesme in 1098 and founded the monastery of Cîteaux. After eighteen months the monks of Molesme asked to have their abbot back; Robert returned and Molesme became a famous Benedictine centre. Feast day, 26 Jan. (with others), formerly 17 and 29 Apr.
