The point at which the occluding surfaces of one or more opposing posterior teeth meet. A deflective occlusal contact is a condition in which the tooth contacts divert the mandible from a normal path of closure; it may occur in the natural or artificial dentition. An interceptive occlusal contact is an interference with the normal movement of the mandible on initial tooth contact.
