National Institute of Adult Continuing Education
A non‐governmental organization, set up in 1949, whose purpose is to support adult continuing education, both through research and through representation of the interests of adult learners. It is a registered charity with a membership made up of both individuals and organizations, and is financed partly through local authorities, the Department for Children, Schools, and Families, and a number of universities. One of the Institute's key aims is to promote equality of opportunity for adult learners who have gained least from their years in compulsory education. It operates within England and Wales, with a specialist Welsh committee, NIACE Dysgu Cymru, which is involved in the development of continuing education within the Welsh border.
