Anglican clergyman. In 1777 he became perpetual curate of Nayland, Suffolk, whence his traditional epithet. He tried to keep alive the High Church traditions of the Nonjurors. In The Catholic Doctrine of the Trinity (1756) he sought to prove from scriptural texts that the doctrine of the Trinity is contained in the Bible.
