Also known as Alhazen. Wrote seven books on optics that were translated into Latin and Italian and were among the first scientific books to be printed. Strongly influenced medieval Latin, Renaissance, and seventeenth-century thinkers. Attacked Ptolemy's planetary theory as a violation of the classical principle of uniform velocity for all celestial bodies.
