First volume of poetry by Wallace Stevens, published in 1923, when he was almost 44, although some of the poems were printed in journals as early as 1915. The 74 poems include “Sunday Morning,” “The Emperor of Ice Cream,” “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,” “Anecdote of the Jar,” “Le Monocle de Mon Oncle,” “The Comedian as the Letter C,” and “Peter Quince at the Clavier.” In 1931 the work was reissued with three poems (none of the above) omitted and 14 added.
