Bp. of Salamis and Metropolitan of Cyprus from 367. He was an ardent upholder of the faith of Nicaea, took part in the Apollinarian and Melitian controversies and, after meeting St Jerome in 382, joined with him in his attack on Origenism. His ‘Panarion’ or ‘Refutation of all the Heresies’ describes and attacks every heresy known to him. Feast day, 12 May.
