Overview

casein kinases

Quick Reference

A group of kinases that preferentially phosphorylate acidic proteins such as caseins but can phosphorylate a large number of proteins. Casein kinase 1 (EC 2.7.11.1, multiple isoforms, ~415 aa) participates in Wnt signalling and is a central component of the circadian clock. Casein kinase II (phosvitin, 215 aa) is part of a tetrameric complex that is also involved in Wnt signalling. It is thought to regulate a broad range of transcription factors and in the brain has been associated with long-term potentiation by phosphorylating proteins important for neuronal plasticity.
