behavioural final common path

Quick Reference

A theoretical concept, based upon the idea that there are activities for which the animal may have a strong tendency, but which cannot be performed simultaneously. The behavioural final common path is a (hypothetical) mechanism by which the animal decides among incompatible tendencies. It is assumed that the strongest tendency wins, and is expressed as overt behaviour, while behavioural expression of all other potential activities (i.e. tendencies) is inhibited.
