Aruṇanti

Quick Reference

(13th century ce)

A South Indian brahmin ascetic, the author of perhaps the best known Śaiva Siddhānta śāstra, Civañāṉacittiyār (1253), which is partly a commentary on his guru Meykaṇṭār's Civañāṉapōtam, teaching the immanence of Śiva and his active non-difference from the individual soul. Another composition of Aruṇanti's on the same theme was Irupāvirupah¯tu (1254), cast in the form of a dialogue with Meykaṇṭār.
