The domain comprising what were formerly known as the archaebacteria. What used to be the kingdom Archaebacteria has been split into two kingdoms: Crenarchaeota and Euryarchaeota. The domain Archaea contains the phenotypes: methanogens, sulphate-reducing organisms, and extremophiles.
