who was born in south London and called himself a ‘Transpontine Cockney’. After showing an early talent for caricatures and fantastic drawings, Rackham went at the age of twelve to the City of London School, where his skill was generally encouraged and appreciated—one of the masters carefully collected drawings confiscated from him in class. After leaving school, he enrolled at Lambeth School of Art and by day, for the next seven years, earned his living as a clerk in an insurance office.... ...
