PREUSSLER, Otfried (1923–2013) Popular German author 

for younger children whose simply told, engaging tales of fantasy have a timeless quality. They include Der kleine Wassermann (1957) (English, The Little Water-Sprite, 1960), Die kleine Hexe (1958) (The Little Witch, 1961), and Der Räuber Hotzenplotz (The Robber Hotzenplotz, 1964), a comic tale about an uncatchable thief. He has been translated into English by Anthea Bell.
