Mouse and his Child, The

The Oxford Companion to Children's Literature

Daniel Hahn

Mouse and his Child, The (1967)

A novel by Russell Hoban, detailing the adventures of a clockwork mouse and his small clockwork son. The book is both an exotic quest story and a parable about human life (the wind-up toys passionately desire to become ‘self-winding’), and it secured its author’s reputation in America and Britain as an outstanding children’s writer.
