lamina 

A flat sheet. The lamina propria is a fibrous layer of connective tissue underlying the basal lamina (basement membrane) of an epithelium. Unlike the basal lamina, may have cellular elements such as smooth muscle cells and lymphoid tissue in addition to fibroblasts and extracellular matrix. See nuclear lamina.
