(1863–1901),pioneering Japanese feminist. Kishida may or may not have been the first woman making speeches on behalf of women's rights in Japan, but she was clearly the first to generate widespread public discussion of these issues. Japan's popular rights movement, based largely on natural rights theory, provided her with the opportunity to speak on platforms with (mostly male) politicians in many parts of the country.... ...
