Operated by Father Greg Boyle and located in Los Angeles, Homeboy Industries is a *gang intervention programme. Their mottos are ‘Nothing stops a bullet like a job’ and ‘Jobs not jails’. They focus on training gang members to work in the food industry, including at one of their cafés or at their bakery or their silk-screening business. They also provide tattoo removal, counselling services, substance abuse treatment, education and employment help, and referrals to other service providers. An evaluation has been produced about Homeboy Industries’ substance use programme and of their overall efforts at helping youth out of gangs.... ...
