The automobile industry is an important and growing economic sector in Asian countries, particularly in India and China. The increasingly widespread adoption of liquid petroleum–fueled personal transportation vehicles has been accompanied by higher consumption of petroleum (often imported) and an increase in greenhouse gas emissions and atmospheric pollution. Electric vehicles may represent a better way to support the inevitable growth in personal modes of transportation, but they may come with their own costs. ...
