Dictionary of African Biography
...his research material was destroyed by a fire at the Aurora Girls Secondary School near Pace College, where his research assistant had compiled the documents. The surviving documents were published as Give Us a Break: Diaries of a Group of Soweto Children in 1988 by Skotaville Publishers. Mtshali subsequently left South Africa for New York once more. He spent most of the following two decades teaching at the New York City College of Technology. He returned to South Africa in the early twenty-first century.
