...wrote works on logic and metaphysics (the Metalogicon ) and on the theory of the state (the Policraticus ). Two possible examples of Chaucer's use of the Policraticus have been suggested. It seems likely that in The Pardoner's Tale the stories of Stilboun and Demetrius (VI.603–20) come from it.
