## inferential statistics

(in-fer-en-shăl)the use of statistics to make inferences or predictions about a population based on the data collected from a small sample drawn from that population.

## mean

In statistics, the average as calculated by the sum of each data point divided by the total number of data points. See also variance.

## range

The spread of values of a set of data. The range is the difference between the maximum and minimum values and is a measure of the dispersion of a set of values. See also descriptive statistics.
