The Timeline display

The Timeline’s title, dates, subject, and other bibliographical information are at the top of the page.

The Timeline itself begins immediately below. All Timelines and the OR entries they link to are free.

Viewing events

Each event in the Timeline is linked to an OR entry and may be linked to other Timelines. To toggle between displaying and hiding this information, click upward arrow and downward arrow.

Links to other Timelines

Links to other Timelines are displayed on the left, categorized according to World History, Areas, and Themes. Click on any of the links to display its entry.

To toggle between displaying and hiding this information, click upward arrow and downward arrow.

Some Timelines have sub-categories. To switch between viewing and hiding them, click on the [+]/[-] button.

Jumping to a year

To jump to specific year in the Timeline:

1. Type or paste the year you want to find in the box.

2. Make your choice from BCE or CE.

3. Click go button or press Enter.

4. The closest matching event in the Timeline is displayed.

Outputting information

Printing a Timeline

To print the current Timeline, click print button. A printable version is displayed in your browser which can then be printed or saved.

Saving a Timeline

To save the current Timeline, click save button, and follow the instructions given.

Citing a Timeline

Click cite button to display a page containing a citation to the current entry. You can choose from the formats: MLA, APA, and Chicago. The citations can be copied and pasted directly into academic work.

You may export citations to personal citation management programs in the following formats: EndNote, ProCite, ReferenceManager, RefWorks, BibTex, and Zotero.

Sending an email link

To send an email link of the current Timeline, click email button. Fill in the details as appropriate. The email will contain a link to the current Timeline only, which will be valid for the next two weeks.

Social bookmarking

To share a link to the current book or Timeline on a social bookmarking site (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Googlemail, etc.), click add button and choose one of the options.

Changing text size

To switch between standard (default) and large text use the text size button buttons.
