Overview
CREB
Quick Reference
A basic leucine zipper (bZip) transcription factor (cAMP response element binding factor, CREB-1, 341 aa) that is activated when it is phosphorylated by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). Phosphorylation allows DNA binding and interaction with MECT1 and with CREB binding protein (EC 2.3.1.48, 2442 aa), a transcriptional coactivator. Several other forms of CREB are known (CREB3, CREB5) and various CREB-regulated transcriptional coactivators. A chromosomal aberration involving CREB1 is associated with angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma.
