A form of informed consent given in the form of an advance directive by people who have had psychotic (1) episodes in the past and wish to precommit themselves to undergo appropriate treatment should they have similar crises in the future. Also called voluntary involuntary treatment. [Named after an episode in Homer's Odyssey in which Ulysses binds himself to the masthead of a ship to avoid being drawn by the Sirens who bewitch men with their songs]
