Overview
Son of God
Quick Reference
Or ‘children of God’. In Gen. 6: 1–4 ‘Sons of God’ united with ‘daughters of men’ to produce a race of supermen who were presumably destroyed by the Flood. The expression, meaning supernatural beings, is also used at Deut. 32: 8, in LXX, and Job 38: 7 (NRSV marg.). In Dan. 3: 25 ‘a son of the gods’ (NRSV marg.) appears in the furnace as a fourth figure.
In the NT ‘sons’ or ‘children of God’ (men and women alike) are believers in Christ (Gal. 3: 26; 1 John 3: 1).
