(PKA)
A family of serine/threonine kinases (PKA, cAMP-dependent protein kinase, EC 2.7.11.1) regulated by the level of cyclic AMP in the cell. They have two catalytic subunits and two regulatory subunits that undergo a conformational change when they bind cAMP and activate the catalytic subunits. A diverse range of substrates gives pleiotropic effects.
