Parkinson's disease

Quick Reference

A progressive neurological disease first described by the British physician James Parkinson (1755–1824) that affects specific cells in the midbrain, causing tremors, gait disorders, and loss of facial mobility due to increasing muscular rigidity; leading, in late stages, to deteriorating intellectual function. It can be a late sequela of viral diseases, such as epidemic encephalitis lethargica or an idiopathic degenerative disease.
