The group of Methodists who in 1797 seceded from the Wesleyan Methodist Church and in the union of 1907 were incorporated in the United Methodist Church. The secession was led by A. Kilham; the differences concerned the representation of the laity in the ruling courts of the Church and the exclusion of any use of Anglican worship.
