Kauśāmbī

(Pāli, Kosambī).
The capital of the ancient Indian kingdom of Vatsa, located on the Yamunā river near to its confluence with the Ganges. Like many major early Indian cities, it was located at the juncture of important trade routes. The Buddha Śākyamuni made several visits there and several early monastic precincts were established there during his lifetime.
