The greatest recorded fall of stony meteorites, which occurred near Jilin (formerly known as Kirin) in Manchuria, northeastern China, on 1976 March 8. About 4 tonnes of fragments of the H5 chondrite meteorite were collected. One fragment, weighing 1.77 tonnes, is the largest single piece of stony meteorite ever recovered.
