A Ch'an monk of the House of Yün-men (see Five Houses) who appears in the kōan.case number 17, in the Blue Cliff Records (Chin., Pi-yen lu). According to this case, a student asked Hsiang-lin ‘Why did Bodhidharma come from the west?’ to which Hsiang-lin replied, ‘To exhaust himself with long sitting.’
