scholar. From the beginning of the 15th cent. he lived in Mistra in the Peloponnese. He had a great veneration for the teaching of Plato, and when, in 1438–9, he attended the Council of Florence as one of the E. spokesmen, he was welcomed by some of the Italian humanists. His ‘Laws’ was modelled on that of Plato. He also wrote in defence of the E. doctrine of the Procession of the Holy Spirit.
