file drawer problem

Quick Reference

A bias in the body of published research in any field resulting from the fact that studies reporting positive results are more likely to be published than those reporting negative or non-significant results. It is especially problematical in research areas such as parapsychology, and in any area it makes difficulties for the interpretation of meta-analyses. [So called because researchers relegate unpublished findings to file drawers]
