disciplinary interview

Quick Reference

An interview to which an employee is called to reply to a complaint or charge under a formal disciplinary procedure. In most cases, the interview will proceed from a statement of the complaint, through the employee's response and cross-questioning, towards a summing up, which may result in the issuing of a disciplinary warning or penalty. The interview may include statements from witnesses and the representation of the employee by a co-worker or trade union official. Advice for employers on the conduct of disciplinary interviews is provided by the Advisory, Conciliation, and Arbitration Service.
