C-stripes

Quick Reference

Fibrous protein (C-protein, X-protein, and H-protein) that appear as thin lines running at right angles to thick filaments in electron micrographs of muscle fibres. C-protein is thought to hold adjacent thick filaments at an even distance during force generation, and it may also control the number of myosin molecules in a thick filament.
