A battle in the American War of Independence ending in a British victory. Thomas Gage, the British commander besieged in Boston, sent 2400 troops (redcoats) to take the heights occupied by 1600 Americans under William Prescott. Only after three bloody uphill assaults, costing 1000 British against 400 American casualties, were they successful.
