Poitiers, Battle of (19 September 1356) 

A battle between the English and French during the Hundred Years War. An English and Gascon force under Edward the Black Prince was trapped by a superior French army while raiding. The English archers defeated the French and their king, John II, was captured. The Jacquerie revolt followed soon after.
