A. V. Coton
(orig. Edward Haddakin; b York, 1906; d Blackheath, 7 Jul. 1969)
British dance critic and writer. He worked as a merchant seaman and policeman before taking up ballet criticism in 1935 and helping Tudor to form the London Ballet in 1938. He was ballet critic of the Daily Telegraph (1954–69). Author of A Prejudice for Ballet (London, 1938), The New Ballet: Kurt Jooss and his Work (London, 1946), and Writings on Dance 1938–68 (ed. posthumously; London, 1975).
