A star that has collapsed to a high density so that *degeneracy pressure is its main support against further collapse. Collapse to a degenerate state occurs either after nuclear fuel is exhausted, as in white dwarfs and neutron stars, or, as in brown dwarfs, which have insufficient mass to raise the core temperature high enough to ignite hydrogen.... ...
