The process of transferring ownership of assets—including land and *natural resources—so that the original owners, users, or beneficiaries no longer enjoy their rights. It may involve coercive, extra-legal, or questionable means. Examples could include a landlord forcing out the occupants of a rental dwelling or a bank seizing an agricultural holding.
