1. A thin coating of metal that oxidizes to protect the main metal from corrosion. A good example of this is galvanized steel (steel coated with zinc). The sacrificial layer oxidizes and protects the main metal from further corrosion. The coating protects the underlying metal so long as a the layer remains in place.... ...
