A practice wherein people attempt to feed themselves or others by collecting food that would otherwise go to waste. The most prominent form of freeganism is ‘dumpster diving’ in which people collect edible food that has been thrown away by supermarkets and restaurants into dumpsters. Less prominent forms include foraging, bartering, and theft. Agents often engage in the practice for ethical reasons: it is viewed as a way of protesting a consumerist economy that tolerates a high degree of food waste.... ...
