An international exhibition that introduced modern art to the American public in 1913. It remains the best known, and perhaps the most influential, art exhibition ever held in the United States. Although only a small fraction of the roughly 1,300 entries in “The International Exhibition of Modern Art” displayed radical styles such as cubism, expressionism, or fauvism, the exhibition stimulated much public interest and indignation.
