Many experts believe that youth sports injuries are a medical epidemic, with about 3.5 million children and teenagers in the United States alone suffering sports injuries serious enough to require medical treatment each year. Most injuries are relatively minor sprains and strains, but some, such as concussions and ligament tears, are far more consequential.
