Archery is one of the world’s oldest sports; like many ancient sports it developed from a human activity originally meant for hunting and armed combat. Researchers have found evidence of archery in almost every part of the world. As an international sport, archery has had an uneven history, due in part to its initial appeal only to the upper class, but also due to its lack of a set of shared rules until the 1930s.
