The Anthropology Days took place during the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis. Anthropology and sports met in a context of colonialism, racism, and fascination for otherness. Colonial subjects, gathered for exhibition at the concurrently held World’s Fair, were labeled “savages” and tested for abilities in mostly Western sports. Their achievements did not impress the evaluators, and were taken as confirmation of white and Western supremacy also in sports. ...
